Writing assessments ask students to write expository essays with a clear main idea and supporting details about a topic and then to organize the information into a logical sequence. For many students, this can be an overwhelming task. In the structured expository essay workshop, teachers will learn explicit instructional strategies for teaching students a structured approach to writing short answer paragraphs and multi-paragraph essays with the SIMR Paragraph and Theme Writing Strategies.Teachers will also learn how to blend other strategies for writing expository essays such as those designed by Jeff Anderson with the SIM Writing Strategies as part of a comprehensive expository writing program. Students improving their writing skills in the program can apply them both in testing situations and in content classrooms.
